Pet Lover Christmas Gifts from Retired Greyhound Trust

Spread the spirit of Christmas with some help from the Retired Greyhound Trust

As we approach the festive season and thoughts turn to Christmas card lists and gifts for friends and family, the Retired Greyhound Trust (RGT) is offering a wonderful range of seasonal cards and gift ideas.

The beautifully designed cards and exciting variety of gifts will not only bring a smile to the faces of dogs lovers this Christmas but will help to support the retired greyhounds in the charity’s care.

The RGT is the national charity dedicated to the rehoming of greyhounds once their racing days are over. The charity’s 70 branches cover the length and breadth of the country and the volunteers at each branch work all year round to find the perfect home for ex-racers in their local area. In 2006 the charity successfully rehomed some 4,000 greyhounds and with the help of supporters hope to smash last year’s record in 2007.

The RGT has this year produced two ranges of Christmas cards, which are available in packs of 12 for just £3.99 plus p&p. The ‘animated’ set, designed by cartoonist Alison Langley, features a series of comical cards depicting the fun-loving nature of greyhounds. Hilary Cargill has designed a range of more ‘traditional’ cards – a series of beautifully drawn greyhounds in seasonal settings.

As part of the Christmas gift range the RGT has produced a 2007 calendar and an anniversaries ‘dates to remember’ book to help keep track of all those important birthdays and celebrations throughout the year. Both the calendar (£11.50) and the anniversaries book (£9.99) are filled with beautiful photographs of happily rehomed greyhounds enjoying their retirement and are gifts that will bring pleasure all year round.

Children will love to adopt their own cuddly canine companion. ‘Homer’, the soft and cuddly RGT mascot (£11.95), fits nicely under the arm of youngsters and the mini ‘Homer’ soft toys (set of four £11.00) make great stocking fillers. The sale of each ‘Homer’ will also help to feed and care for real retired greyhounds.

Money raised from selling Christmas cards ad gifts will be distributed to the charity’s 70 branches across the UK to help pay for shelter upgrades, food and medical treatment for many ex-racers.

Ivor Stocker, director of the RGT, says, “Our volunteers work hard all year to look after and find homes for greyhounds who are ready to take life at a slower pace. I really hope that people will think of our four legged friends when they are doing their Christmas shopping so that they too can look forward to a happy New Year in 2008.”

All of this year’s Christmas cards and gifts are featured on the RGT website www.retiredgreyhounds.co.uk and can be purchased from the comfort of your armchair either online or by calling the charity’s national office on 0870 444 0673.
